BNSF’s Employee Appreciation Special train trip gives thanks, features America250 locomotive

The 2026 Employee Appreciation Special ended its annual tour on the evening of June 17. It was the last of 29 train trips offered in May and June to BNSF team members and their families and friends. Nearly 6,700 passengers participated in this year’s Employee Special events at 11 locations across our rail network.

The Employee Special isn’t just a train ride. It’s a celebration of who we are and our contributions that make us industry leaders.

Employee Special passengers traveled in BNSF’s beautifully restored stainless-steel business cars that represent the golden age of railroading. From laughter echoing through the aisles to quiet moments watching the landscape roll by, each trip was packed with pride, connection and shared purpose. Teammates reconnected, families bonded and a deeper appreciation for our work as railroaders was gained.

This year, the special included a special twist: the train was powered by two of BNSF’s newly painted red, white and blue America250 locomotives.

Having the America250 locomotives on both ends of the train made for a unique experience for both the passengers and crew members.

Devin Spahn served as the engineer on trips out of Alliance, Nebraska, and was grateful for the opportunity. It was truly the greatest experience of my career and one I’ll never forget,” Spahn said. “Being able to see our coworkers, friends, and family members enjoying the trip while having the privilege and honor of operating the train they were riding on was something very special to me. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and is something I will always remember.

Nope, this isn’t AI – just a little extra love in the sky as our Employee Appreciation Special (EAS) rolled into Denver this year.
